New Year's Resolutions

Interview with the Gainesville Sun about New Year's Resolutions.

Life Balance!

"Rachel Hofer subscribes to the idea of setting “microresolutions” — small steps toward a larger goal, and then rewarding yourself.“Set goals for every day, every hour, every minute. ‘I’m not going to take a break until I send two emails,’” said Hofer, who is a life coach and registered mental health counselor intern at Loving Therapy and Life Coaching, owner and personal trainer of Life Balance Fitness, as well as a career development teacher at Santa Fe College. Rewards can be something like going on Facebook, taking a short walk or going to a movie. “It’s different for different people,” she said.

Hofer said research shows that people get better results when they write down their goals. Hofer said she works with counseling clients not to be too hard on themselves. Although she calls her fitness company Life Balance Fitness, she said she considers that there is never going to be complete life balance.“Part of life balance is being OK with things not being perfect,” she said. Her mental health counseling often deals with changing people’s perspective to address anxiety or depressive thinking. “A lot has to do with rules we make for ourselves to be perfect. ”Hofer also recommends celebrating the past year. “You’ve got to celebrate what you have accomplished.”

Counseling is never done with personal training or fitness clients. However, Life Coaching is different than counseling. . .It comes from the idea of a coach drawn by a horse- having someone to help you be pulled forward in life. Counseling deals with past hurts, hangups, habits, traumas, and experiences that may get in the way of you having a healthy life today. Life coaching does not look back, but from where you are to where you want to be.A coach can help you to set goals, plan, create habits, and believe the things that will get you where you want to be.Imagine life as a river and you are in the boat, moving. . . where are you going? Who is with you? Who is on the shore? What are you hearing? What do you see? What would you like to see change? There is a start. If you are just not satisfied with where you are in life I have seen lives change through this process. It is not a guarantee but there is hope! Research shows that if you write down your goals (you have to have some first) you are so much more likely to achieve them! What may you believe that gets in the way? What you believe can sabotage goals even if you have them. A life coach can help you find what you want and where you want to be!Life coaching sessions are 50 minutes and can be done via Skype or google video or over the phone. 35$/session.
